Remarks of Ruka Sanusi At The Social Good Summit 2019

The following is the remarks of Ruka Sanusi, Executive Director, Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC) as delivered by Ahuma Cabutey Adodoadji, Marketing and Communications Director of GCIC at the Social Good Summit in Accra on Wednesday, September 18, 2019.

The summit was organised by the UNDP in partnership with GCIC on the theme, “Take Action To Save The Planet! Climate Change Is Real”.

“Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth… these are one and the same fight. We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health, food security, and women’s empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be solutions for all.” – Ban Ki-moon

Climate Change Is rapidly evolving everything within the planet that has sustained us all these centuries. This is the reason that engagements such as these which highlight Climate Change and the need to take action are necessary.

In Africa and Ghana, some of the effects of climate change include the shift in rainfall patterns, disrupting farming the way our local farmers have known it. Excessive flooding after rainfalls and the scarcity of food are evidence of this fact.
